A thick blanket of smog has engulfed parts of Northern India, leading to school closures, a hybrid mode of education, and winter vacations. In places like Delhi-NCR, districts of Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Jammu and Kashmir, schools are closed for various reasons. Here is a list of states where schools are closed:
Owing to dense fog and extreme cold conditions, the Lucknow administration has revised school timings. As per the official directive, all schools from Class 1 to Class 12, across every education board, will now commence classes only after 9 am. The order applies to government-run basic and secondary schools, aided institutions, as well as schools affiliated with all boards in the district. Authorities have instructed school administrations to strictly follow the revised schedule until further notice.

In Rampur district, similar measures have been introduced as cold wave conditions persist. The school schedule for Classes 1 to 8 has been revised, with an official order from the District Basic Education Officer directing all government-run, secondary, aided, and board-recognised institutions to operate between 10 am and 3 pm until further notice.

Bareilly
The Bareilly district administration on Wednesday ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 8 for three days as a cold wave and dense fog continued to disrupt normal life in the region. Officials said that all government, aided and private schools for Classes 1 to 8 will remain shut from December 18 to December 20 in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari Dr Vinita said the decision was taken on the directions of District Magistrate Avinash Singh. She cautioned that strict action would be initiated against any school found violating the order. However, she clarified that schools where examinations have already been scheduled may conduct them as per the pre-decided programme.
