Raquel Gil Monllor is a pre-doctoral researcher at the University Institute of Tourism Research at the University of Alicante. Her doctoral thesis explores the experiences of the British retired population living in the province of Alicante, paying special attention to how they experience social integration and adaptation after Brexit.
This fieldwork seeks to provide useful tools for understanding the challenges and opportunities facing the British community in Alicante. The results may help to identify factors that improve the quality of life in the local environment, highlight their needs and promote integration. The testimonies collected may be used to inform organisations, institutions and administrations interested in improving the care and support provided to this group. In addition, they may make the community better known and understood by local society, promoting coexistence and citizen participation.
All interviews are face-to-face and can be conducted wherever the person wishes (at home, in a comfortable space in the city) or in her office at the University of Alicante. The meeting lasts approximately one hour and is always conducted in English. Participation is completely confidential and voluntary.
