In May 2026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) released the National Health Accounts (NHA) estimates for India for financial year 2022-23 (FY23), the 10th report on health expenditure estimates.
- The report highlighted that Government Health Expenditure (GHE) increased from Rs 1.30 lakh crore (Cr) in 2013-14 to Rs 3.85 lakh Cr in 2022-23, stating higher public investment in the health sector.

Prepared by: The report is prepared by the National Health Accounts Technical Secretariat (NHATS), National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC), MoH&FW, using the System of Health Accounts (2011) framework.
Total Health Expenditure (THE): In FY23, the THE for India is estimated at Rs 8.81 Cr, 3.37% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with base year 2022-23.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh Inaugurates PECVD System and RETINA incubation centre at IACS Campus in Kolkata, WB
In May 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Dr. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) inaugurated two key initiatives namely: Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) system and Research Entrepreneurship for Translation, Innovation and NAvigation (RETINA), on the occasion of 150 years celebrations of the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), one of India’s most iconic scientific institutions, at IACS’s campus in Kolkata, West Bengal (WB).
- IACS holds historic scientific significance as it is the birthplace of the discovery of the Raman Effect was made by Nobel laureate Sir C.V. Raman on February 28, 1928.
Key Details:
PECVD: It is developed indigenously at IACS campus for fabrication of India’s 1st amorphous silicon solar cell, reflecting the scientific self-reliance under the Government of India (GoI)’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
- The newly launched system, developed under the leadership of Ashok Kumar Barua, marked a major step in India’s renewable energy research.
RETINA: The newly inaugurated incubation centre is designed to support the commercialisation of scientific research and promote startup-driven innovation.
DARPG Launches ‘NeSDA 2025 Portal’ to Assess Digital Public Service Delivery
In May 2026, the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions(MoPP&P), launched the Portal for the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA), 2025 for comprehensive assessment of E-governance (electronic governance) Service Delivery.
About NeSDA 2025 Portal:
Framework: NeSDA is a biennial assessment framework developed by DARPG to measure the depth and effectiveness of existing e-Governance service delivery mechanisms from the citizen’s perspective.
Categories: All Government Portals assessed under NeSDA are classified into two categories:
- State, UT, City and Central Ministry Portals
- State, UT, City and Central Ministry Service Portals.
Focus Sectors: The framework covers a wide range of Government-to-Citizen (G2C) and Government-to-Business (G2B) services across key sectors including finance, labour and employment, education, local governance and utilities, social welfare, environment, tourism, public grievances and transport.
RITES and CRISIL Sign MoU to Develop Data-driven Infrastructure Consultancy Solutions
In May 2026, RITES Limited, formerly known as Rail India Technical and Economic Service, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited (CRISIL) Limited to jointly develop data-driven infrastructure consultancy solutions across multiple sectors in India and overseas.
Key Details of MoU:
Objective: The partnership aims to strengthen analytical and advisory support for infrastructure projects through market intelligence, data validation, financial due diligence, valuation support and the development of analytical models for consultancy assignments undertaken by RITES.
Strategic Partnership: The MoU combines RITES’ transport infrastructure expertise with CRISIL’s advanced data analytics and research capabilities to deliver integrated consultancy solutions for infrastructure projects.
Coverage: The MoU enables both organisations to jointly pursue consultancy projects across transport, energy, water, hydropower, wastewater, and industrial infrastructure sectors.
Focus Areas: This partnership will boost analytical and advisory inputs for various infrastructure projects by leveraging market, intelligence, data validation, financial due diligence, and valuation support.

IAF Partners with IIT Bombay for Su-30MKI Predictive Maintenance System
In May 2026, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has signed three contracts with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), Mumbai, Maharashtra, to indigenously develop Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven predictive maintenance technologies, including a digital diagnostic health index for the Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter aircraft fleet.
- The signing ceremony was presided over by Air Marshal KAA Sanjeeb, Director General (DG) (Aircraft), IAF and Shireesh B Kedare, Director, IIT Bombay.

Predictive Maintenance Initiative: The collaboration focuses on adopting predictive, prognostic, and prescriptive maintenance technologies for the Su-30MKI fleet using indigenous expertise developed at IIT Bombay.
Operational Readiness: The system is expected to improve aircraft availability, reduce service and maintenance costs, and strengthen mission readiness of the IAF’s frontline fighter fleet.
Indigenous Technology Development: The maintenance framework will be developed using fully indigenous know-how and advanced data-driven engineering solutions evolved at IIT Bombay, supporting India’s self-reliance goals in defence technologies.
Su-30MKI: It is a twin-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft operated by the IAF, developed by Sukhoi, Russia, and customised for India under a licence-production agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
IIT-M Unveils Rs 4.5 Crore Circulating Water Tunnel Facility in Chennai, TN
In May 2026, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN), launched the Circulating Water Tunnel Facility, an advanced hydrodynamic testing facility in Thaiyur, near Chennai, TN.
- The newly launched research facility is designed to strengthen indigenous ship design, ocean engineering research and hydrodynamic testing capabilities in the country.
About Maritime Research Facility:
Funding: The new research facility was constructed with Rs 4.5 crore in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding from Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a Navratna defence Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).
Facility: The newly established Circulating Water Tunnel Facility is designed to strengthen India’s capabilities in ocean engineering, ship design, naval architecture, hydrodynamics, and offshore engineering research.
Research Applications: The facility will support research and testing in ship design, marine vehicles, naval technologies, offshore structures, fluid dynamics, hydrodynamics, and ocean engineering systems.
Future Collaborations: Also, both IIT–M and MDL are exploring new avenues to foster collaborations in advanced maritime and naval technologies.
NSE and SUFI Signs MoU To Develop Steel Commodity Derivatives Ecosystem
In May 2026, National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), India’s largest stock exchange, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Steel Users Federation of India (SUFI) in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to develop the steel and commodity derivatives ecosystem.
Key Details of MoU:
Focus: The collaboration will focus on exchange-traded derivatives, hedging mechanisms against steel price volatility, product design, industry consultations, market outreach and capacity-building programmes for India’s steel sector.
NSE: It will develop the derivatives trading platform for steel commodity products.
Significance: The initiative strengthens India’s commodity derivatives market by supporting industrial price stability, reducing risks from steel price volatility and aligning India’s globally significant steel sector with international financial market practices.
Benefit: The ecosystem will benefit steel manufacturers, processors, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), infrastructure companies and end-users.
Steel Production Growth: India’s crude steel production increased by nearly 11% year-on-year to 168.4 million tonnes(MT) in Financial Year 2025-26(FY26) and is projected to reach 300 million tonnes by 2030.

Purpose: The platform carried payloads to test biological experiments, propulsion systems, earth observation sensors, onboard computing platforms, and navigation technologies.

Urdu Poet and Padma Shri Awardee Bashir Badr Passed Away
In May 2026, renowned Urdu poet and Padma Shri awardee Dr. Bashir Badr passed away at the age of 91 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh (MP). He was born in 1935 in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Purpose: The purpose of this scheme is to support women who do not have any fixed income source, government salary or pension.
