Overview of Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal’s Visit to India
Shisir Khanal, Foreign Minister (FM) of Nepal, undertook a 3-day official visit to India from June 5 to 7 2026, at the invitation of Union Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Highlights of Visit:
Key Engagements: During his visit to India, Nepal FM Khanal held bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar in New Delhi, Delhi, during which, FMs of both countries reviewed the full spectrum of India-Nepal bilateral relations covering development cooperation, connectivity, trade and transit, energy, and people-to-people ties.
- Later, Nepali FM Khanal held a high-level meeting with Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor (NSA) to the GoI.
3 Key Outcomes: Following the bilateral meeting held between the FMs of India and Nepal, 3 major outcomes:
- Launch of Person-to-Person (P2P) linkage between UPI (India) and NPI (Nepal);
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Kathmandu University’s Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence (AI) (DPI-AI), to jointly develop multilingual language technologies and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI);
- 84 India-funded reconstruction projects (post-2015 Earthquake) were handed over to Nepal.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal Launched BHAVYA Portal to Facilitate Development of 100 Industrial Parks
In June 2026, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoC&I), launched the BHAVYA Portal in New Delhi(Delhi), to operationalise the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA), a Rs.33,660 crore flagship scheme aims to develop 100 world-class industrial parks through a Centre–State partnership model.
- The portal will function as a unified digital platform for the end-to-end implementation of the scheme, enabling submission of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), project appraisal, evaluation, and real-time progress monitoring.
About BHAVYA Scheme:
Overview: BHAVYA aims to develop 100 investment-ready industrial parks over six years, creating integrated industrial ecosystems for manufacturing, innovation, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and startups.
Implementation: The scheme is being implemented by the NICDC under DPIIT, MoC&I, through a 51:49 Centre–State partnership model.
Support: The Government of India (GoI) will provide up to Rs.1 crore per acre for core, value-added, and social infrastructure, allocate up to 25% of project costs for external connectivity, and support testing, certification, digital mapping, satellite-based land assessment, and innovation ecosystems.
Rapido and MoRTH Partnered to Promote RahVeer Scheme for Road Accident Victims
In June 2026, Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited operating under brand name Rapido, partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) in New Delhi, Delhi to promote the RahVeer Scheme through digital and on-ground awareness initiatives, encouraging timely assistance to road accident victims during the critical golden hour.
- The agreement was signed in the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, MoRTH, and Aravind Sanka, Co-founder of Rapido.
About the Partnership between Rapido and MoRTH:
Record: The initiative engaged over 4 lakh Rapido captains across 400+ cities, reached millions of users, and earned a Guinness World Record (GWR) as more than 4 lakh captains took the RahVeer Pledge simultaneously.
Significance: The partnership strengthened road safety awareness, encouraged civic responsibility and timely emergency action, and demonstrated how technology and mobility networks can support public safety solutions.
RahVeer Scheme: It was launched in April 2025 by MoRTH, as a reward-based initiative that encourages citizens to assist road accident victims during the critical Golden Hour by assuring protection from legal or procedural concerns and providing a reward of Rs.25,000 along with a certificate of appreciation to eligible individuals who help save lives by taking victims to a hospital.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh & UP CM Yogi Adityanath Inaugurated Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow
In June 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Earth Science (MoES) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MoS&T) and Chief Minister (CM) of Uttar Pradesh (UP) Yogi Adityanath, jointly inaugurated the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) at Lucknow, UP.
- The centre aims to strengthen regional weather forecasting and disaster preparedness for extreme weather events across UP, Uttarakhand, and adjoining regions.
About the RMC at Lucknow:
Overview: RMC, Lucknow, upgraded from the Lucknow Meteorological Observatory established in 1894, provides impact-based weather forecasts, early warnings, and aviation services for UP, Uttarakhand, and adjoining regions.
Infrastructure: Under Mission Mausam , the centre has 3 operational Doppler Weather Radars (DWRs), 107 Automatic Weather Stations (AWS), 140 Automatic Rain Gauges (ARG), 7 Lightning Sensors, and aviation support for 11 airports, reflecting the significant expansion of both Uttar Pradesh’s meteorological infrastructure and India’s Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) network since 2014.
Mission Mausam: Launched in 2024 under MoES, aims to strengthen weather forecasting through expanded observation networks and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)-enabled forecasting, with India’s DWR network set to expand from 50 to nearly 100 radars over the next two years.

SIPRI Report 2025: India Among World’s Top 5 Military Spenders, Holds 190 Nuclear Warheads
In June 2026, global think-tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released its annual assessment of the state of armaments, disarmament and international security i.e. “SIPRI Yearbook 2026: Armaments, Disarmament and International Security”. According to the report, India was the world’s fifth-largest military spender in 2025, with defence expenditure reaching USD 92.1 billion, an increase of 8.9% compared to 2024.
- The report also estimated that India’s nuclear arsenal increased from 180 warheads in 2025 to 190 warheads as of January 2026, reflecting a gradual expansion of its nuclear capabilities.
Key Findings:
Global Military Expenditure: The report estimated global military expenditure surged for the 11th consecutive year i.e. to USD 2.9 trillion in 2025, representing 2.5% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Top Global Military Spenders: According to the report, the United States of America (USA) retained its position as the world’s largest military spender, its expenditure reached USD 954 billion in 2025. It was followed by China with USD 336 billion and Russia with USD 190 billion, ranking second and third globally, respectively.
Total Nuclear Warheads: As of January 2026, the report estimated that all 9 nuclear states, including the USA, Russia, the United Kingdom (UK), France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel, together possessed nearly 12,187 nuclear weapons, of which about 9,745 were in military stockpiles for potential use.
Russian President Offers Sukhoi Su-57 Stealth Aircraft & Joint Production in India
In June 2026, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, offered India the advanced Sukhoi Su–57, 5th generation stealth aircraft and also proposed its joint production in India.
- The announcement was made on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) held in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Key Details:
Background: In 2007, India and Russia initiated the joint Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) program to jointly develop an advanced stealth fighter jet derived from Russia’s Sukhoi Su-57 platform.
- Later, India formally withdrew from the program in 2021 due to unresolved issues related to costs, technology transfer, and performance.
Technology Transfer: The proposal includes full technology transfer and the establishment of manufacturing facilities in India, supporting the country’s ‘Make in India’ and defence indigenisation initiatives.
Sukhoi Su-57 (Felon): It is a 5th-generation stealth multirole fighter jet developed by Russia’s Sukhoi Design Bureau, a subsidiary of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), to compete rival advanced the United States of America (USA) aircraft such as: F-35
- It performs both air superiority and precision strike missions by combining advanced stealth technology, supermaneuverability, and sustained supersonic speeds.

RBI Launches Twin USD-INR Forex Swap Facility to Attract Foreign Currency Inflows
In June 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced the following two special USD-Rupee forex swap facilities to attract foreign currency inflows and support external financing:
- One for fresh Foreign Currency Non-Resident Bank (FCNR (B)) deposits
- Second for eligible External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) and overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCBs)
Key Highlights
FCNR (B) deposits: The RBI will launch a USD-Rupee forex swap facility for fresh FCNR(B) deposits. The swap facility with RBI will be available in USD only.
Swap Access: Authorised Dealer (AD) Category-I banks can avail of the RBI’s forex swap facility for fresh FCNR(B) deposits raised in any freely convertible currency.
Swap Facility: The RBI will introduce USD-Rupee Forex Swap Facility for:
- ECBs of average maturity of 3 years and above
- OFCBs raised by AD category I banks for a minimum maturity of 3 years
Sahamati Foundation Gets RBI Recognition as SRO for AA Ecosystem
In June 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recognised Sahamati Foundation as the Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO) for India’s Account Aggregator (AA) ecosystem, creating a formal industry-led governance framework for the country’s consent-based financial data-sharing network.
About Recognition:
Representative Body: The recognition enables Sahamati Foundation to serve as the representative body for participants in the AA ecosystem, promoting collaboration among financial institutions, Account Aggregators, FinTech firms, and other stakeholders.
Regulatory Role: As a SRO, Sahamati will help develop industry standards, promote best practices, address operational challenges, and strengthen compliance across the AA ecosystem.
AA ecosystem: The AA ecosystem is a consent-based digital framework regulated by the RBI that enables individuals and businesses to securely share their financial data with authorized institutions through AAs
- The AA ecosystem comprises 1,120 regulated entities, including 17 operational AAs, and has enabled 294+ million linked accounts, 450+ million consent requests, and 290+ million monthly data-sharing transactions.

Fitch Ratings Lowers India’s GDP Growth Forecast to 6.4% in FY27
In June 2026, American credit rating agency Fitch Ratings released its June 2026 Global Economic Outlook (GEO). The report has lowered India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth forecast by 30 basis points (bps) for Financial Year 2026-27 (FY27) to 6.4% from the previous estimate of 6.7%.
Key Projections:
GDP: As per the report, India’s GDP growth is expected to increase to 6.7% in FY28, driven by robust consumer spending and investment.
- However, in FY29, India’s GDP growth rate is projected to ease to 6.4%.
Inflation: The report revealed that wholesale prices in India witnessed an increase of 8.3% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) in April 2026, while Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation stood at 3.5% for the same time period.
- It also projected that India’s inflation is expected to reach 5.3% by the end of Calendar Year 2026 (CY26).
Global Growth: Also, Fitch has revised down global growth by 20 bps to 2.4% for CY26.
Adani Ports Secures USD 70 Million Marine Services Contract for Argentina’s LNG Export Project
In June 2026, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) announced that it had secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export project. The contract, valued at an estimated USD 70 million, marks APSEZ’s entry into South America.
- The contract was awarded to APSEZ’s subsidiary, Adani Harbour International Free Zone Company (FZCO), in partnership with Argentina-based Meridian Group.
Key Details of Contract:
Execution: The contract will be executed through Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A., a joint venture(JV) between Adani Harbour International FZCO (51%) and Argentina-based Meridian Group (49%).
Services: The Adani–Meridian consortium will provide marine services for the Southern Energy Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) Project, supported by four tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel, and one crew boat.
Timeline: The Southern Energy FLNG Project in San Matías Gulf, Argentina, will begin operations in September 2027 and produce 2.45 Million Tonnes (MT) of LNG annually, (around 28 cargoes per year) making it Argentina’s first LNG export project.
Export: With this agreement, Argentina plans to export up to 10 MT of LNG annually to India from 2027.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung Nominates Han Seong-sook as Next PM
In June 2026, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung nominated Han Seong-sook, current Minister for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), as the country’s next Prime Minister(PM). The nomination follows reports that incumbent PM Kim Min-seok is stepping down from the position.
- Upon parliamentary approval, Han Seong-sook will become the second woman PM in South Korea’s history, following Han Myeong-sook, who served from 2006 to 2007.
About Han Seong-sook
Early Career: She began her career in 1989 as a reporter with Mincom and later worked for PC Line. In 1995, she headed public relations at Nanum Technology.
Leadership: In 2017, Han Seong-sook became the first woman CEO of Naver Corporation, South Korea’s leading internet company, after serving as the company’s Vice President.
Ministerial Role: Sheassumed her current role as Minister for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) when the Lee Jae Myung administration took office in 2025.
GoI Reappoints Janakiraman as RBI Deputy Governor for Another Two Years
In June 2026, the Government of India (GoI) re-appointed Swaminathan Janakiraman as Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for another 2 years.
- As per RBI, his re-appointment will be effective from June 26, 2026 and will remain valid for two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
About Reappointment:
Initial Appointment: Swaminathan was previously appointed as Deputy Governor of RBI for 3 years in June 2023, replacing MK Jain, former Managing Director (MD) of IDBI Bank.
Key Role at RBI: As a senior-most Deputy Governor of RBI, he has been entrusted with responsibility to oversee areas like: Department of Supervision and Inspection Department, among others.
Composition: The RBI Act 1934 mandated that the central bank should have 4 deputy governors, two from within the ranks, one commercial banker and an economist to lead the monetary policy department.
- Apart from Swaminathan, the other 3 deputy governors are: Poonam Gupta, Shirish Chandra Murmu and Rohit Jain.

- China’s IM Kong Xiangrui won the gold medal in the Open section of the Asian Individual Chess Championship 2026, securing the title on tie-breaks after finishing with 7/9 points.
Asian Individual Chess Championship 2026:
Overview: A continental Swiss-system chess tournament organised by the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) for players from Asian member federations of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), featuring Open and Women’s categories.
Edition: The 2026 event marked as the 21st edition of the Open section and the 27th edition of the Women’s section.

Background:
Origin: WBTD was established and first observed on 8 June 2000 by the German Brain Tumour Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe) in Germany.
Global Expansion: The observance later gained international recognition with the support of the International Brain Tumour Alliance(IBTA) transforming it into a global awareness initiative.
Symbol: The Grey Ribbon serves as the international symbol of awareness for brain tumours and brain cancer.
World Accreditation Day 2026 – June 9
World Accreditation Day (WAD) is observed annually across the globe on 9 June to highlight the importance of accreditation, a formal independent process that verifies whether institutions or programmes meet quality standards and are competent to carry out conformity assessment tasks.
- The 2026 edition marks the first observance coordinated under the newly formed Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI).
