In May 2026, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) released the National Family Health Survey – 6 (NFHS-6), the 6th series highlighting key gains in health, nutrition and population indicators while supporting the government’s push towards greater data harmonisation.
NFHS – 6 Profile
Purpose: The main objective of the NFHS is to provide high-quality, reliable data on population, health, nutrition, and family welfare indicators across India and its States/Union Territories (UT).
Nodal Agency: The NFHS-6 was conducted during 2023-24 by MoHFW with the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai, Maharashtra as the nodal agency.
Coverage: The survey covered nearly 6.79 lakh households across 715 districts.
- The survey covered all States/UT except Manipur.
Indicators: The NFHS-6 fact sheets focus on 101 major indicators providing a concise snapshot of India’s most critical health and demographic trends.
Union Minister Amit Shah Launched LPMS ‘VINIMAY’ to Digitise Cargo & Passenger Movement at Land Ports
In June 2026, Union Minister Amit Shah, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ministry of Cooperation launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS) – VINIMAY, a digital platform, in New Delhi, Delhi, to modernise land port operations, facilitate trade, strengthen border security, and enhance operational efficiency.
- It was developed by the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) under MHA.
About LPMS Vinimay:
Integration: It enables real-time data sharing and coordination among Indian Customs Electronic Gateway (ICEGATE), Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Border Security Force (BSF), Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), the Motor Vehicle System, government agencies, and private operators through a neutral and open platform.
Benefits: The system eliminates about 90% of paperwork, reduces truck waiting time by 40–60%, cuts gate processing time by 22–35%, and enhances efficiency, transparency, security, and inter-agency coordination in cross-border trade and passenger movement.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Issues LoA to Three Global Universities for Campus Expansion
In June 2026, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE) issued three Letters of Approval (LoA) to globally reputed foreign higher education institutions, namely the University of Bristol (UoB), United Kingdom (UK), the University of York (UoY), United Kingdom (UK), and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia to set up campuses in India.
- This initiative supports the Internationalisation of Education under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
New Campus Locations:
University of Bristol: It will be established in Mumbai Enterprise Campus, Maharashtra, offering programmes in Immersive Arts, Finance, Data Science, Economics, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation.
University of York: It will establish its first overseas campus in Mumbai, offering programmes in Finance, Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Business, Economics, Creative Industries, and Management.
University of New South Wales: It will establish UNSW Bengaluru at Manyata Business Park, Bengaluru, Karnataka, scheduled to open in August 2026, offering programmes in Business, Computer Science, and Cyber Security, along with deeper collaboration in renewable energy, health, transport, and education.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Unveils 1.25 Lakh Crore VB-G RAM G Rural Development Initiative from July 1, 2026
In June 2026, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) and Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (MoAFW), unveiled the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) framework, a Rs. 1.25 lakh crore rural development initiative.
- Effective from 1 July 2026, the scheme aims to generate employment, create village assets, and promote digital governance across nearly 2.8 lakh Gram Panchayats.
About VB-G RAM G Framework:
Objective: It aims to ensure a seamless transition from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005, generate employment, create durable rural assets, strengthen livelihoods, and support nearly 2.8 lakh Gram Panchayats.
Allocation: The programme has a total outlay of over Rs 1.25 lakh crore, including Rs 30,000 crore under MGNREGA, 2005, and an interim allocation of Rs 95,692.31 crore, comprising Rs 92,550.17 crore for States, Rs 1,291.52 crore for Union Territories (UTs), and Rs 1,850.62 crore for central administration and social audits.
Implementation: Development works will be selected through Gram Panchayats and Gram Sabhas, focusing on roads, water conservation structures, community infrastructure, and other durable rural assets.
Overview of Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez Visit to India
Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez, Acting President of Venezuela was on a 5-day working visit to India from 3 – 7 June 2026, with a focus on strengthening bilateral energy cooperation.
- This Visit marking her sixth visit to India after earlier visits as Foreign Minister (2015) and Vice President (2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025).
Key Highlights of Visit:
Bilateral Meeting: During the visit, Venezuela’s Acting President Rodríguez held bilateral talks with Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House, in New Delhi, Delhi
- During the meeting, leaders of both countries reviewed the full spectrum of India–Venezuela relations and explored ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas like: energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, health care, transportation, and Renewable Energy (RE).
Other Key Engagements: She also held a meeting with Union Minister S. Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi.
- Later, she paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi.
Visit to Jamnagar: She visited Jamnagar oil refinery, world’s largest single-point oil refining facility, owned by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Bilateral Trade: The bilateral trade between India and Venezuela reached USD 678.94 million in Financial Year 2025-26 (FY26). Also, Venezuela became India’s 3rd largest supplier of crude oil in May 2026.
Union Minister Rajnath Singh Approved 250 MW Solar-BESS Project on Defence Land at Sitapur, UP
In June 2026, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), approved a 250 Megawatt (MW) Solar Power Project with integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Sitapur (Ex-Cantonment), Uttar Pradesh(UP), marking a first-of-its-kind renewable energy initiative on defence land.
- The project will strengthen energy security of defence establishments while reducing dependence on conventional grid power and ensuring long-term fiscal savings.
About Sitapur Solar-BESS Project:
Overview: The project aims to provide reliable power to defence establishments, reduce grid dependence, and generate long-term savings.
Implementation: Selected through a competitive bidding process, NTPC Limited will implement the project under the supervision of the Integrated Headquarters of the MoD (Army) and the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE).
Technology: The project combines 250 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) generation with BESS, to ensure round-the-clock power supply and enhance energy security.
Benefits: Enhances defence energy security, reduces grid dependence and costs, promotes clean energy adoption, and optimises vacant defence land use without transferring MoD ownership.
Varanasi Becomes First City Under India’s Easy Connect Model for International Travel
In June 2026, Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MCA), announced that Varanasi( Uttar Pradesh, UP) as the first city integrated into India’s Easy Connect hub-and-spoke aviation model, enabling international travellers to complete immigration and baggage formalities before Delhi and connect seamlessly to 17 global destinations.
About Easy Connect Model:
Overview: Easy Connect is a hub-and-spoke aviation model that allows passengers to complete international immigration and baggage formalities at their origin airport and transit seamlessly through Phase-1 hub airports Delhi, Mumbai (Maharashtra), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Rajkot (Gujarat).
Connectivity: The model provides access to 17 international destinations, including London Heathrow Airport (United Kingdom, UK), Frankfurt (Germany), Milan (Italy), Rome (Italy), Zurich (Switzerland), Manila (Philippines), Singapore (Singapore), Phuket (Thailand), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), and Dubai (United Arab Emirates, UAE).
Implementation: The initiative is implemented by the MCA and operated by Air India, the service will commence on the Varanasi–Delhi route (AI-1111) from 25 June 2026, enhancing regional airport connectivity and operational efficiency.
Benefits: The Easy Connect model simplifies international travel, reduces hub congestion, improves connectivity, and strengthens regional airport integration through phased expansion.

In June 2026, Viyona Fintech India Private Limited, a National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)-certified Technology Service Provider, received certification as a Biller Operating Unit (BOU) under the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) operated by NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited(NBBL).
Viyona BBPS Certification
Operational Role: The certification enables Viyona to operate as a BOU, allowing billers across sectors to collect payments through the Bharat BillPay network.
Onboarding: Viyona can now onboard billers onto the BBPS network through a compliant and integration-ready platform.
Certification Portfolio: The BBPS BOU certification adds to Viyona’s NPCI-certified offerings, including Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Switch, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS), Banking Connect, and Electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) Setu, strengthening its position as a full-stack payments technology provider.
About BBPS: It is an interoperable bill payment platform operated by NBBL for standardised bill collections across multiple categories.

Meta–Reliance Partner to Develop 168 MW AI-Enabled Data Centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat
In June 2026, Meta Platforms Inc.,(Meta) partnered with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to develop its first large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled Data Centre in India at Jamnagar, Gujarat.
About AI Enabled Data Centre:
Overview: Meta will lease 168 MegaWatts (MW) of AI-ready data centre capacity from RIL, with operations expected to begin by 2028.
Sustainability: The data centre will run on 100% Renewable Energy(RE), supported by nearly 925 MW of clean energy capacity (837 MW from CleanMax and 88 MW from Fourth Partner Energy), and will use desalinated seawater for cooling.
End-to-End Services: RIL will provide end-to-end lifecycle services for the data centre, including design, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity, and fully managed operational support.
Connectivity: The data centre will be linked to Project Waterworth, Meta’s global subsea cable network, to enhance internet connectivity and reliability.
Existing partnership: The project builds on Meta’s USD 5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms Limited in 2020, through which it acquired a 9.98% stake.

Oman India Fund sells 3.65% stake in Capital Small Finance Bank For Rs 37 crore
In June 2026, Oman India Joint Investment Fund II (OIJIF II), a private equity firm promoted by the sovereign wealth fund of the Sultanate of Oman and State Bank of India (SBI), sold 3.65% stake in Capital Small Finance Bank (SFB), one of India’s leading SFBs focused on retail and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Key Details of Deal:
Acquisition: As per the proposed arrangement, Lyptus Punch-Card Fund acquired the entire stake sold by OIJIF II.
Transaction Value: The Capital SFB sold 1.36 million shares at a price of Rs 270 per share, taking the total transaction value of the deal to nearly Rs 36.79 crore.
Execution: The block deal was executed on the National Stock Exchange of India Limited (NSE), at 1.11% discount to Capital SFB’s closing price on the day of transaction.

Veteran Tamil Filmmaker and Padma Shri Awardee Bharathiraja Passed Away
On June 10 2026, veteran Tamil filmmaker, director, producer, screenwriter, and actor Bharathiraja passed away at the age of 85 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu(TN). He was born as Chinnasamy on 17 July 1941 in Theni Allinagaram, TN.
- He was honoured with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in 2004 by the Government of India (GoI) in the field of Arts.
About Bharathiraja:
Film Career: He made his directorial debut with 16 Vayathinile (1977) and went on to direct over 40 films across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema.
Acting: He also had a successful acting career, with Thudarum being his last released film, while Pulavar remains his final unreleased project.
Awards & Honours: He won six National Film Awards (1982, 1986, 1988, 1995, 1996 & 2001), three Filmfare Awards South (1978, 1987 & 1994) for Best Director and Best Film, along with multiple Tamil Nadu State Film Awards including the Arignar Anna Award (2001).

- International Archives Week (IAW) 2026 is being held from 8–12 June 2026 under the theme “#ArchivesForJustice: Rights, Memory & Futures.”
Background:
Resolution: In 2004, a resolution adopted at the International Congress in Vienna, Austria, urged the United Nations (UN) to establish a dedicated day for archives.
Designation: In 2007, ICA designated 9 June as IAD to commemorate its establishment on 9 June 1948 under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
First Observance: The first IAD was celebrated on 9 June 2008, marking the 60th anniversary of ICA.
International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations 2026 – June 10

In June 2026, the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research -Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI), New Delhi, Delhi signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Haryana for implementing a project titled “Implementation of the Standard Framework for Paving and Greening of Urban Roads (Haryana State)”.
- The agreement was signed at CSIR-CRRI, New Delhi,Delhi to develop sustainable urban road infrastructure and reduce road-dust pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR),Delhi.
Project Overview
Objective: The initiative aims to reduce road dust pollution in NCR, Delhi, promote sustainable urban road infrastructure, and improve long-term mobility planning and maintenance.
Implementation Partners: The project will be implemented by CSIR-CRRI in collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), New Delhi, the Government of Haryana, and under the guidance of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
Key Components: The project will focus on four major work packages, including climate-resilient road design standards, greening of road corridors, introduction of a Road Asset Management System (RAMS), and adoption of advanced technologies for road construction, maintenance, and monitoring.
Assam Govt & EU Launch Blue Valley Cluster in Guwahati to Promote Flavours, Fragrances & AYUSH Sectors
In June 2026, the Government of Assam and the European Union (EU) launched the Blue Valley Cluster in Guwahati, Assam, to promote cooperation in the Flavours, Fragrances, and Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) sectors.

Alignment: The cluster aligns with the priorities of the EU-India Comprehensive Strategic Agenda agreed upon at the 2026 EU-India Summit.
