The Himachal Pradesh Government has initiated a major recruitment drive to fill 3,468 teaching posts in CBSE-affiliated government schools across the state.

The announcement was made by Education Minister Rohit Thakur during a review meeting held to assess the progress of education reforms aimed at strengthening the quality of school education and transforming Himachal Pradesh into a leading educational hub.
The recruitment forms part of the state’s broader strategy to improve teaching standards, enhance subject-specific instruction, and ensure adequate staffing in government schools that have adopted the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.
Recruitment Covers Regular and Temporary Teaching Positions
According to the Education Department, the ongoing recruitment includes 2,668 regular teaching posts across 19 different categories, for which requisitions have already been forwarded to the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog, Hamirpur.
In addition, the government is recruiting 800 temporary teachers, including:
- 400 English Teachers
- 400 Mathematics Teachers
These temporary appointments are intended to strengthen foundational learning and improve academic performance in CBSE-affiliated schools until regular appointments are completed.
Recruitment Planned Across Multiple Subjects
The state government has also announced that recruitment for teachers in several other subjects will be completed in the coming months.
The proposed recruitment will include teachers for:
- Sanskrit
- Hindi
- English
- Science
- Commerce
- Economics
- Political Science
- History
- Geography
- Sociology
- Psychology
- Computer Science
- Physical Education
- Music
- Drawing
- Fine Arts
- Public Administration
The expansion is expected to ensure that students receive quality instruction across both academic and co-curricular disciplines.
146 Government Schools Receive CBSE Affiliation
During the review meeting, the Education Minister stated that approval had been granted to 158 government schools for CBSE affiliation.
Out of these, 146 schools have already obtained official CBSE affiliation, marking a significant milestone in the state’s education reform programme.
To strengthen academic delivery in these institutions, the government had engaged temporary English and Mathematics teachers. So far:
- 292 English teachers have joined.
- 284 Mathematics teachers have reported for duty.
The remaining appointments are expected to be completed shortly.
Digital Education and ICT Infrastructure Strengthened
The state government also reviewed several initiatives aimed at modernising school education through technology.
According to the department:
- All government schools have been integrated with Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
- Approval has been granted for replacing outdated computers in 524 government schools.
- BSNL has finalised the networking tender for 777 government schools, which will improve internet connectivity and support digital learning.
These initiatives are expected to enhance classroom teaching through technology-enabled education.
Student Welfare and Future Initiatives
The Education Minister also reviewed the implementation of the Dr. Y.S. Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana.
Over the past three academic sessions:
- 9,359 students have received tablets under the scheme.
Officials have been directed to provide benefits to all remaining eligible students through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system without delay.
The government also discussed future education reforms, including:
- Establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) University
- Identification and mainstreaming of out-of-school children
- Continued improvement of digital infrastructure and quality education
