CBSE reminded schools that practical examinations and internal assessments are an integral part of the board examination process and must be conducted as per the syllabus, marking scheme, and instructions issued by the board. Any deviation from the laid-down procedures may invite action as per CBSE affiliation bye-laws.
The board also emphasised that marks awarded during practical exams and internal assessments should reflect the actual performance of students. Schools have been instructed to ensure that evaluation is carried out objectively and responsibly, without any undue inflation or manipulation of scores.
CBSE further underlined the responsibility of school heads to supervise the entire assessment process and ensure that examiners and teachers involved are well-versed with the assessment criteria. The board stated that schools must maintain proper records related to practical exams, projects, and internal assessments for verification, if required.
The reminder comes as CBSE schools across the country gear up for the practical examination season ahead of the annual board exams. The board has consistently cautioned institutions in previous years against irregularities in internal assessments, noting that such practices undermine the credibility of the examination system.
