The World Bank Group (WBG) has launched WBG Pioneers, its internship programme for both UG and PG students. The application window for the inaugural 2026 cohort opened on January 19, 2026. The internship aims to offer paid opportunities to the students. The program seeks to harness fresh perspectives to advance the Bank’s mission of ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity on a livable planet.
The application window closes on February 17, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in March, with the first cohort commencing in April.
Applicants will be notified by March 2026 regarding interview invitations. Final selections will also be completed in March. The WBG Pioneers 2026 cohort will commence in April 2026. The internship period runs from April to September 2026, with flexibility for interns to begin at any point within this timeframe.
Eligibility
–Undergraduate: For students in their final year of a Bachelor’s degree.
–Postgraduate: For individuals enrolled in Master’s or PhD programmes.
Applicants with 0–6 years of professional experience are eligible. Internship placements will span the WBG headquarters in Washington, DC, as well as country offices across its 189 member nations. Applicants will be asked to upload the following:
–Curriculum Vitae (CV)
–Statement of Interest
–Proof of Enrollment / Education Transcript
For the undergraduate track, transcripts must confirm that the applicant is in the final year of a Bachelor’s programme; on the other hand, for the postgraduate track, transcripts must confirm current enrollment in a Master’s or PhD programme.

Where will interns work?
Interns will contribute to projects across multiple World Bank Group sectors, from health and education to energy, transport, and corporate support. The program offers hands-on experience, skill development, and collaboration with professionals, providing a deeper understanding of the Bank’s role in global development.
What will be the salary?
In addition to professional development, interns will receive an hourly wage. Accommodation arrangements remain the responsibility of the participants. Based on organisational requirements, internship placements are offered at the World Bank Group headquarters in Washington, D.C., as well as in country offices worldwide, according to the official website.
