Cabinet Approves Rs 9,585 Crore Scheme for Replacement of Old Trucks & Buses in Delhi-NCR to Promote Cleaner Mobility
On 3 June 2026, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, approved a two-year Rs. 9,585 crore scheme to replace 2.07 lakh Bharat Stage (BS)-IV (an emission standard) and older trucks and buses in Delhi–NCR (National Capital Region) with BS-VI-compliant or electric vehicles (EV’s), to reduce vehicular emissions, improve air quality, and accelerate commercial fleet modernisation.
About Delhi-NCR Vehicle Replacement Scheme:
Funding: The scheme will be funded through the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and implemented by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), in collaboration with the participating States and Union Territory (UT) of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh (UP).
Monitoring: An Empowered Committee, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary Dr. T. V. Somanathan, oversees implementation.
Benefits: Central Government provides 5% interest subvention for five years, monthly fuel vouchers of up to Rs.4,800.
- State Government offers registration fee waivers, up to 100% motor vehicle tax concession for new vehicles, 50% tax concession for used BS-VI vehicles for ten years, and waiver of pending liabilities.
- The OEMs provide an 8% ex-showroom discount on eligible vehicles.
Union Cabinet Approved Rs 10,000 crore ATF Price Stabilisation Fund to Support Indian Airlines
In June 2026, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi approved one-time budgetary support of up to Rs 10,000 crore for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to provide Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) price stabilisation support to scheduled Indian Airlines for their domestic and international operations, affected by rising global fuel prices due to the ongoing West-Asia conflict.
- The newly approved mechanism is expected to provide enhanced stability and predictability in ATF pricing for Indian airlines, enabling better operational and financial planning.
Interest-Free advance to OMCs: The GoI will provide budgetary support in the form of interest-free advances to OMCs through the demands for grants of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).
- Under the approved arrangement, the corpus will compensate the OMCs whenever the prevailing Import Parity Price (IPP) exceeds the benchmark price determined by the GoI.
Recovery and True-Up Mechanism: The scheme introduces a recovery and true-up mechanism under which, whenever global ATF prices decrease, the differential amount will be recovered from OMCs and returned to the Consolidated Fund of India. This arrangement will continue until the entire advance is fully recovered by the GoI.
Monitoring and Audit: A Monitoring Committee comprising representatives of the MoCA, MoPNG and Department of Expenditure (DoE), Ministry of Finance (MoF) will be responsible for the overall implementation, claim verification, reconciliation and settlement and audit of the scheme, thereby ensuring transparency and accountability.
Duration: As per the Government of India (GoI), the newly approved arrangement will remain in force up to 36 months (3 years), subject to annual review or until the support amount is fully recovered, whichever is earlier.
Union MoS Jayant Chaudhary Launches ‘Navachar Mantra’ to Empower Grassroots Innovators Across India
In June 2026, Union Minister of State (MoS) (Independent Charge, IC) Jayant Chaudhary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), launched Navachar Mantra, a flagship national initiative at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi, in New Delhi, Delhi, aimed at identifying, mentoring, and scaling grassroots innovators and early-stage entrepreneurs.
About Navachar Mantra:
Implementation: The programme is implemented by the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi as Technical Knowledge Partner.
Structure: Selected innovators undergo a year-long engagement through a multi-stage evaluation involving academia, industry, investment firms, and government, supported by mentorship, webinars, innovation showcases, investor interactions, and a culminating national showcase event.
Registration: Applications are open on the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) until 5 July 2026, providing selected participants with year-long mentorship, investor connect opportunities, pilot project support, national exposure, and assistance in scaling sustainable innovations.
Centre Expands QR Tagging of FCI Foodgrain Bags to AP, Telangana & Odisha
In June 2026, the Government of India(GoI) decided to expand the Quick Response (QR) code tagging initiative for Food Corporation of India (FCI) foodgrain bags to Andhra Pradesh(AP), Telangana, and Odisha during the ongoing marketing season.
- The initiative aims to enable end-to-end tracking of foodgrain movement, prevent bag recycling, and improve transparency in procurement, storage, and distribution.
About QR Tagging Initiative:
Background: The initiative follows successful QR-tagging pilots for rice in AP (December 2025–January 2026) and wheat in Punjab (April–May 2026).
Coverage Expansion: The expanded pilot will cover 20 lakh tonnes of rice, including 10 lakh tonnes from AP and 5 lakh tonnes each from Telangana and Odisha, transported with QR tagging from milling points to distribution centres.
Tracking: Each foodgrain bag is assigned a unique QR code that enables tracking of the procurement centre, procuring agency, and procurement season, with scanning carried out at FCI godowns during storage and Fair Price Shops(FPSs) during distribution.
- QR codes captured through electronic point-of-sale (ePoS) devices at FPSs will help identify the grain season, enable auto-generation of bills, and streamline subsidy disbursal.
T-Hub Launches Third ORBIT Space-Tech Cohort, Onboards 13 Startups
In June 2026, startup incubator Technology Hub(T-Hub) launched the third cohort of ORBIT, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM)-supported Atal Innovation Incubation Centre (AIC)-T-Hub Space-Tech Accelerator Programme, inducting 13 startups focused on developing innovative solutions for the space sector.
- With the launch of Cohort 3, ORBIT has now supported 36 space-tech startups, while T-Hub’s wider spacetech initiatives have engaged over 100 startups.
About 3rd Cohort of ORBIT:
Space Domains: The selected startups are engaged in building propulsion systems, orbital servicing, satellite intelligence, sovereign compute, satellite intelligence, space energy systems, satellite connectivity and downstream geospatial technologies.
Selected Startups: 13 startups selected under the Cohort are: Sanyak Space Technologies, Trishul Space, Kessler Dynamics, Velotrax, Zoove Space, Space OS, Humanity Space, Landlens, STAR Labs, Red Balloon Aerospace, Astro Voltaics, Orbit Grid and Nibiaa Devices.
Mentorship: These selected startups will get guidance from industry experts, investors, former Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) leaders through specialised mentorships, masterclasses and industry programmes.
Key Progress: So far, the previously ORBIT Cohorts have collectively raised nearly Rs 30 crore in funding and contributed to 18 published Intellectual Properties (IPs).

UNGA Elected Five countries As Non-Permanent Members of UNSC
In June 2026, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) elected 5 countries namely: Austria, Kyrgyzstan, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago(T&T), and Zimbabwe, as non-permanent members of the 15-member United Nations Security Council (UNSC), during the closely contested elections held at UN Secretariat in New York, the United States of America (USA).
- These newly elected non-permanent members will serve on the council for a two-year term, starting from January 1, 2027 to December 31, 2028.
- The election marks Kyrgyzstan’s first-ever term on the UNSC since becoming a member of the UN in 1992.
About UNSC Elections:
Countries Replaced: These 5 new non-permanent members will replace countries: Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama, and Somalia, whose term ends on December 31, 2026.
Participating Candidates: This year, a total of 7 candidates contested the elections for UNSC’s 5 non-permanent member seats and these were: Germany, The Philippines, Austria, Portugal, Zimbabwe and Trinidad and Tobago and Kyrgyzstan.
Other 5 Non-Permanent Members: The 5 elected countries will join the current non-permanent members namely: Colombia, Bahrain, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Latvia and Liberia, who will continue to serve on the council until December 31, 2027.

ADB, Standard Chartered Partner to Strengthen Supply Chain Finance in India
In June 2026, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Standard Chartered Bank signed agreements to strengthen supply chain finance in India through risk-sharing arrangements covering both United States Dollar (USD) and Indian Rupee (INR) transactions.
- The agreements were signed in Mumbai, Maharashtra by Bhargav Dasgupta, Vice-President, ADB, and P.D. Singh, Chief Executive Officer(CEO), Standard Chartered Bank India & South Asia.
Key Details of Partnership:
Objective: The partnership aims to address financing gaps and strengthen risk-sharing mechanisms in supply chain finance in India.
Financing Arrangements: The partnership includes a Risk Participation Arrangement (RPA) through Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Gujarat, to support USD-denominated transactions and a Partial Guarantee Facility (PGF) agreement to facilitate onshore INR transactions.
Support: Together, these arrangements aim to expand access to trade finance and supply chain finance for businesses in India, while supporting the continued flow of both domestic and cross-border trade.

OECD Raises India’s FY27 Growth Forecast by 20 bps to 6.3%
In June 2026, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in its latest report titled “OECD Economic Outlook Under Pressure: June 2026”, raised its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth projection for India by 20 basis points (bps) to 6.3% for Financial Year 2026-27 (FY27), from its previous estimate of 6.1% (in its interim report released in March).
Key Findings:
GDP: The outlook further showed India’s GDP growth rate at 7.6% for FY26, which indicates the impact of higher energy prices.
- Also, India’s GDP is projected to increase marginally i.e. to 6.4% in FY28.
Inflation: As per OECD’s latest outlook, India’s inflation is projected to increase from 2.1% (in FY26) to 4.8% in FY27 (which is lower than its previous estimate of 5.1%), driven by higher food and energy prices as well as currency weakness.
Global Growth Rate: OECD projected the global growth rate to ease from 3.4% in Calendar Year 2025 (CY25) to 2.8% (CY26) but retained the growth rate for CY27 at 3.1%.

In June 2026, Doddalahalli Kempegowda Shivakumar (D.K. Shivakumar), from the Indian National Congress (INC), Kanakapura constituency, was sworn in as 25th Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka after Siddaramaiah stepped down following directions from the Congress high command.
- The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Raj Bhavan, Bengaluru, where Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to Shivakumar and his newly appointed cabinet ministers under Article 164.

Key Details of Deal:
Equity Shares: GQG Partners through its affiliate GQG Partners Emerging Markets Equity Fund sold 1.95 crore equity shares (1.85%) in GAL.
Transaction Price: As per the transaction arrangement, the transaction price of each share is Rs 97.75.
Acquirer: FIL, through its affiliate Fidelity Investment Trust – Fidelity International Small Cap Fund, acquired the proposed stake in GAL.

Establishment: The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), at its 7th Emergency Special Session held on 19 August 1982, adopted Resolution A/RES/ES-7/8, designating 4 June each year as the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.
- Initially established to highlight the suffering of Lebanese and Palestinian children affected by the 1982 Lebanon War.
First Observance: The day was observed for the first time on 4 June 1983.
Significance: Reaffirms the UN’s commitment to protecting children’s rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), a landmark treaty adopted in 1989 and the world’s most widely ratified human rights agreement.

Key Details of MoU:
Objective: The partnership aims to create industry-driven skill programmes through collaboration between educational institutions and industries in Telangana and Thuringia, fostering a globally competitive workforce.
Collaboration: Both sides agreed to explore joint initiatives involving the Young India Skills University (YISU), Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), polytechnic institutes, and German industry partners to design customized skilling curricula aligned with emerging industry needs.
Capacity Building: The collaboration includes establishing a German Language Training Hub in Hyderabad, integrated with Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM) programmes to enhance overseas employment opportunities in German-speaking markets.
