Uttar Pradesh is broadening its industrial growth strategy beyond electronics, with the state seeking investments in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, clean energy, automotive manufacturing, textiles and Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
The focus emerged during a series of sectoral sessions coordinated by Invest UP on the second day of UPITS 2026, bringing together government officials and industry leaders to discuss investment opportunities, infrastructure, policy support and sector-specific growth prospects.
UP looks beyond electronics to AI, semiconductors and GCCs
Addressing the session, “UP’s Journey from Electronics Leader to AI and Semiconductor Powerhouse,” Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said Uttar Pradesh has the potential to develop into a major technology and manufacturing hub, supported by policy stability, infrastructure and greater Centre-State coordination.
“The effort is no longer limited to keeping investment confined to Noida. We want electronics and technology opportunities to reach other parts of Uttar Pradesh as well, so that the state’s youth can benefit,” Prasada said.
He cited investments by companies such as Samsung and Yotta, as well as the development of data centres, AI laboratories and other technology infrastructure, as signs of the state’s expanding technology ecosystem.
Prasada said the focus should be on building an integrated value chain spanning product design, semiconductor components, electronics manufacturing and exports.
“Government support can provide the foundation, but businesses must become competitive and sustainable in their own right,” he said, stressing the importance of policy stability for long-term investment.
Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, IT and Electronics, Uttar Pradesh, said the state is also looking to expand its mobile manufacturing and GCC ecosystem beyond Noida.
While GCCs are already established in Noida, some have begun operations in Lucknow, he said. The state’s GCC and IT policies are aimed at attracting more centres to Lucknow and Kanpur, in addition to Noida. Companies including IBM are already present in Lucknow, while IT and IT-enabled services have been accorded industry status, Kumar said.
Renewable energy pipeline seen at 8-10 GW
The technology session was followed by the Invest UP-coordinated session, “Energy Future: Grid Transformation for India’s 2030 Clean Energy Goals,” which focused on renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen, clean manufacturing and transmission infrastructure.
