Widener University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting in the School of Business Administration. Reporting to the
Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs, this role involves instructing undergraduate and/or graduate students in accounting courses,
conducting scholarly research to meet tenure requirements, and serving on departmental and university committees.
The Assistant
Professor of Accounting (tenure-track) in the School of Business Administration will teach undergraduate and graduate courses across all
areas of Accounting, delivered in a variety of modalities including in-person, online, hybrid, and distance education. The educator will
employ innovative teaching methods and demonstrates a strong commitment to meeting the diverse learning needs of students. The faculty
member’s expertise, specialization, and pedagogical training will contribute to advancing the department’s mission and vision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
Essential Duties:
Teaching
- Deliver graduate and undergraduate courses in accounting and selected
finance areas (e.g., managerial accounting, financial accounting, cost accounting, auditing, taxation, corporate finance, and
entrepreneurial finance). - Teach three courses each semester, delivered primarily in person, with the possibility of online or
hybrid formats. - Research and Scholarship
- Develop and sustain a productive research agenda aligned with AACSB Scholarly
Academic standards. - Engaging in high-quality scholarly activities to meet tenure and promotion requirements. This includes
publishing in peer-reviewed journals, presenting at conferences, and contributing to the overall academic standing of the University (e.g.,
meeting AACSB standards).
Service and Leadership
- Engage in service activities that
support the University, community, and profession. - Provide leadership in academic and professional initiatives.
- Contributing to the university and department by participating in committees, advising students on academic and career matters, and
assisting with departmental administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience
required):
Required:
- Terminal degree (Ph.D or equivalent) in Accounting from an AACSB accredited
business program by the date of appointment. - ABD candidates will be considered with evidence of timely completion.
- Must
meet AACSB requirements for scholarly academic status. - Special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability
to teach in areas such as Financial Accounting, Forensic Accounting, Fraud Examination, Accounting Information Systems, Auditing, or
graduate-level Accounting courses. - Proven capacity to establish and sustain a rigorous research agenda that contributes
meaningfully to the field of accounting. - Strong commitment to student achievement, with a focus on guiding learners in developing a
portfolio of marketable skills and competencies that enhance career readiness. - Dedication to excellence in teaching, demonstrated
through the use of innovative, engaging, and student-centered pedagogical approaches. - Minimum of two years’ experience including
familiarity with U.S. GAAP. - Professional certification (CPA designation) preferred.
Tenure Track
- This is a tenure-track position, meaning the Assistant Professor enters a probationary period generally lasting up to seven years during
which they work toward earning tenure. - Tenure is awarded following a rigorous evaluation of the faculty member’s contributions in
teaching, research, and service.
