MYAS Notifies NSB and NST Rules, 2026 under Sports Governance Act, 2025
In May 2026, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) notified the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board (NSB)) Rules, 2026 and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal (NST)) Rules, 2026 under the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.
About NSB Rules 2026:
Framework: The rules define the composition of the Board, term of office of the Chairperson and Members, salary, allowances and other conditions of service, as well as the powers and functions of the Board.
Central Authority: The NSB will function as the central authority for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies.
Board Composition: The NSB shall consist of a Chairperson and two Members.
About NST Rules 2026:
Framework: This rule provide for the term of office of the Chairperson and Members of the Tribunal, their appointment and re-appointment process, salary and allowances, service conditions and powers of the Tribunal.
Term of Office: The Chairperson shall hold office for a term of five years
or till he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
- The Members shall hold office for a term of five years or till they attain the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.
MoSJE Launches PM-AJAY Portal and Mobile App to Digitise SC Development Scheme
In May 2026, Union Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE) launched the PM-AJAY Portal and the companion AJAY Mobile Application (App) virtually to digitize and strengthen the implementation of Scheduled Caste (SC) communities welfare schemes.
- The dual platforms aim to fully digitize the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY) by shifting from paper-based workflows to an end-to-end digital system with real-time tracking.

Framework: The PM-AJAY portal works as a central database that streamlines operations and supports milestone-based fund management across the scheme’s three core pillars. Adarsh Gram component, GIA Component, Hostel Component.
About AJAY Mobile Application:
Overview: The AJAY Mobile App is a unified digital platform extending the services of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) and the PM AJAY portal to mobile users.
Objective: The application enables mobile-based service delivery, strengthens field-level monitoring, facilitates real-time reporting, and enhances transparency and digital governance.
11th QUAD Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Held in New Delhi, Delhi
On May 26 2026, the 11th edition of Quadrilateral Security Dialogue(QUAD) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (QFMM 2026), chaired by the Union Minister S. Jaishankar, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI), was held in New Delhi, Delhi.

Key Initiatives Launched: One of the key highlights of the QFMM was the launch of the 1st ever Indo-Pacific Maritime Surveillance Collaboration (IPMSC) initiative; Quad Initiative on Indo-Pacific Energy Security to strengthen regional energy resilience; and others.
Key Announcements: Some of the key announcements made following the 11th QFMM are: India to host the 2nd edition of the Quad-at-Sea Ship Observer Mission;
- Over USD 6 million funding in awards for 06 international research projects under the Advancing Innovations for Empowering NextGen Agriculture (AI-ENGAGE) initiative;
- Under the newly released Quad Critical Minerals Initiative Framework”, Quad partners pledged to mobilize up to USD 20 billion investment in government and private sector to bolster critical minerals supply chains, including in mining processing, and recycling through various actions.
ISM Launches ‘Investors Support’ Portal for Investor & Ecosystem Assistance
In May 2026, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), launched an online investor facilitation portal ‘Investors Support’ to boost investor confidence and strengthen semiconductor investments in India.
- The portal will acts as a single-window facilitation mechanism for semiconductor investors in India.
About Investors Support Portal:
Objective: The portal has been developed to provide investors with information related to government schemes, policies, approved projects under the Semicon India Programme, and regulatory requirements for investments in India.
Grievance Redressal Mechanism: The portal will also enable investors to register grievances and concerns, which will be addressed by officials of the ISM with support from nodal officers of relevant ministries, departments, organisations, state governments, approved project companies, and trade bodies/associations.
Semicon India Programme: Launched in 2021 by the Government of India(GoI) with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore under MeitY, aims to develop a sustainable semiconductor display manufacturing ecosystem in India.
- Under this Programme, the GoI has so far approved 12 semiconductor fabrication and packaging projects, along with 24 semiconductor design projects.
ICMR launches India’s largest biomedical innovation platform, transfers 41 health technologies to industry
In May 2026, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), under the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), organised the “Medical Innovations Patent Mitra: Innovators-to-Industry (I2I) Connect” event at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, Delhi.
- The Programme was inaugurated by Union Minister of State (MoS) Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare(MoHFW), in the presence of Gobardhan Das, Member of NITI Aayog.
Highlights of the Platform:
Objective: The Objective of the Medical Innovations Patent Mitra: Innovators-to-Industry (121) Connect programme is to accelerate technology transfer and commercialization of indigenous healthcare innovations through industry partnership.
Tech Transfer: A major highlight of the event was the launch of first-of-its-kind Innovator–Industry Platform that transfers 41 Public Health Technologies to Industry the transfer of 41 public health technologies from ICMR institutes and innovators to industry partners for further development, manufacturing and commercialization.
- The transferred technologies included vaccines, diagnostic technologies, medical devices and biomedical research solutions aimed at addressing critical public health challenges.

LIC Launches Two New Joint Insurance Products ‘New Jeevan Sathi’ for couples
In May 2026, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced the launch of two new joint life insurance savings plans “LIC’s New Jeevan Sathi Single Premium” and “LIC’s New Jeevan Sathi Limited Premium”, available from June 2026.
- The plans are designed for couples, offering joint life financial protection and providing guaranteed returns, fixed benefits, premium waiver on first death, loan facilities, and flexible payout options.
About New Joint Insurance Products:
New Jeevan Sathi Single Premium: A one-time premium plan with guaranteed additions of Rs. 70 per Rs. 1,000 of Basic Sum Assured (BSA) and policy terms ranging from 10 to 25 years.
New Jeevan Sathi Limited Premium: A limited premium plan with Premium Payment Term (PPT) options of 5, 10, or 15 years, offering 7% guaranteed additions on Tabular Annual Premium (TAP), premium waiver on first death, and policy terms ranging from 10 to 25 years.

In May 2026, Nibe Group and Israel’s Elbit Systems signed a Joint Venture (JV) to set up advanced energetic materials and propellant manufacturing facilities in India.
- This newly formed strategic partnership aligns with the Government of India (GoI)’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
Key Details:
Product Portfolio: The proposed strategic defence products to be manufactured are: Nitro Cellulose, Nitro Glycerine, and various other propellant bases (single base propellant, double base propellant, and triple base propellant).
Key Roles: Under the JV, Elbit Systems will provide technical assistance and related support, while Nibe Group will handle the establishment, investment, and operational responsibilities for the proposed facilities in India.
LoI Signed: The Nibe Aeronautics signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with De Havilland Canada, for the procurement of Twin Otter amphibious aircraft, marking a significant boost for regional aviation and seaplane connectivity.
- The LoI was signed in the presence of Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister (CM) of Maharashtra in Shirdi, Maharashtra.
- The newly signed agreement aims to boost tourism and last-mile access under Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik(UDAN) and Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

In May 2026, Senegal President Bassirou Diomaye Faye appointed Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, a veteran central banker, economist, and member of the Pastef party, as the new Prime Minister(PM) of Senegal.
- The political transition took place, three days after President Faye dissolved the government and dismissed former PM Ousmane Sonko.

SEBI Approves Appointment of 2 Executive Directors at CDSL
In May 2026, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) approved the appointment of Amit Mahajan and Nayana Ovalekar as Executive Directors (EDs) on the board of Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL).
- The appointments will become effective from their respective dates of joining, subject to ratification by the shareholders of CDSL.

NASA Unveils USD 20 billion 3-Phased Plan for Permanent Moon Base
In May 2026, Jared Rook Isaacman, Administrator of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) unveiled a USD 20 billion 3-phased plan to establish a permanent base on the moon, equipped with lunar rovers and drones.
- NASA has set the target to set up a lunar base in March 2027 and further aims to land astronauts on the moon in 2028.
About 3-Phased Moon Base Missions:
Moon Base-I (2026-2028): For the Moon Base-I mission, the space agency has selected Blue Origin’s Blue Moon Mark-1 Endurance lander, planned no earlier than September 2026.
- As per NASA, the mission will land on the Shackleton Connecting Ridge.
Moon Base-II (2029-2032): Under this mission, NASA aims to start construction of permanent lunar infrastructure like: habitats, power systems and facilities required to support longer human missions on the moon.
Moon Base-III (2032 onwards): The Moon Base III mission, will carry NASA’s Lunar Vertex science mission to study mysterious lunar swirls and bright formations on the Moon considered to be linked to magnetic fields beneath the lunar surface, and will carry payloads from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Korean Space Agency (KSA).

Veteran Olympian Archer and Arjuna Awardee Shyam Lal Meena Passed Away
In May 2026, veteran Indian Olympian archer and Arjuna Awardee Shyam Lal Meena passed away at the age of 61 in Rajasthan. He was born on 4 March 1965 in Kevadia village, Banswara district, Rajasthan.
- He was honoured with the Arjuna Award, India’s second-highest sporting honour, in 1989 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), for his outstanding contributions to the sport.

Background:
First Observance: Former United States of America (USA’s) President Ronald Reagan designated 25 May 1983 as the first National Missing Children’s Day in memory of six-year-old Etan Patz, who disappeared in New York City on 25 May 1979.
Launch: IMCD was launched in 1998 through a partnership between the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
Global Recognition: In 2001, 25 May was officially recognized as the first International Missing Children’s Day through the joint efforts of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), the European Commission, and Missing Children Europe.
World Thyroid Day 2026 – May 25
World Thyroid Day (WTD) is observed annually across the globe on May 25 to raise awareness about thyroid disorders, promote early diagnosis and treatment, and highlight the importance of nutrition in thyroid health.

- It aligns with Prime Minister(PM) Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Nagrik Devo Bhava’, advancing governance from One Day Governance to WhatsApp-based Governance.

Signatories: The MoU was signed between Hareet Shukla, Secretary of the Training and Administrative Reforms Division, General Administration Department (GAD), Gujarat and Aman Jain, Director and Head of Public Policy, Meta, India and A. Objective: The two-year collaboration, aims to strengthen Gujarat’s e-governance initiatives through Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven public services, accessibility projects, and digital skilling programmes.
