Background agents bring governance challenges
However, analysts cautioned that the rise and enterprise adoption of Claude Cowork-like tools, which represent a growing class of AI agents that operate in the background, executing long-running tasks with periodic human oversight, would also require CIOs to strengthen governance, security, and oversight.
“Always-on or persistent agents expand the attack surface because they continuously access enterprise systems and data. CIOs will need stronger identity controls, least-privilege permissions, audit trails, approval workflows, policy enforcement, and continuous monitoring to ensure these agents remain secure, compliant, and accountable,” Jain said.
